The new Euro 6 standard (Nepal Vehicle Emission Standards 2082) was initially brought into effect by the Ministry of Forest and Environment via a notice in the Nepal Gazette on June 3, 2025 (2082/03/19).

However, recognizing the practical challenges of immediate transition, the Ministry of Finance, through a subsequent Nepal Gazette notice dated September 26, 2025 (2082 Ashoj 10), introduced a crucial provision.

This provision permits the import of vehicles and necessary spare parts under the older standard until December 1, 2025 (2082 Mangsir 15). The exemption applies specifically to two categories:

  • Imports with Existing Contracts: Vehicles for which the Proforma Invoice (P.I.) was already issued before the new Euro 6 standard was officially implemented.
  • Domestic Manufacturing: Vehicles that are assembled or manufactured within Nepal, including the parts required for their assembly or production.

The decision aims to mitigate financial losses for businesses that had already initiated the import or manufacturing process under the previous regulatory framework.

Furthermore, the industry is seeking detailed information regarding the internal coordination and efforts undertaken by the relevant government offices.

This includes all correspondence between the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal, Ministry of Forest and Environment and the Ministry of Finance, as well as any necessary steps taken to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of this transitional arrangement for importers and manufacturers.
